My future projection
My future projection as civil engineer
As I told you in previous classes mi lovely passion is related to civil engineering and corelated to it, we have some diferents branches dedicated to solve some different aspects, for example we have topography which is focused on the form and distribution of the terrain, we have geotechnical which is dedicated to study soil properties and engineering behavior un controled conditions to stablish if its possible to use the soil for engineering pourposes, we have the structures branch that, as its name relate, it's dedicated to build structures like buildings, highways, bridges, etc.
Once you know breafly about civil engineering branches and its duties I'll tell you briefly which and why I am choosing the mine one. When I began my univeristy life I wanted to study everything because studying is one of the things i like the most, but as I matured in that way, I realized that It was better to specialize in just one fild, and beeing one of the best on it than having a lot general knowledges in diferent areas, so my project in the moment, according to those subjets I have liked the most, is to specialize in geotechnical.
Geotechncial engineer, as I specified briefly in previous pargraphs, is dedicated to study the soil properties such as form, clasification, humidity etc. The first is studied is how to identify a type of soil in field, there are 4 tests: dilatancy, dry strengh, tenacity and plasticity, but after, soil mass is taken to the laboratory for the final verdict. Soil is passed by some sieves to determinate what fraction of every type of soil contains the soil mass which was brought form field. Once the main properties are stablished, the project continues determining what are the porpouses for that soil; if a hihgway is required, or a building, or a dam, etc. So according to those properties already known about the soil mass, the geotechnical enginerring dictate if it's posible to build on that soil mass, and if it is posible, what considerations are necessary to have to build in.
According to what it's mantioned in the previous paragraph, if you read properly, geotechnical and structures go hand in hand, that's why if you preffer one or another, you will need to have at least brief knowledges in the other one if you want to be a good engineer.
As a closing for my short essay in which my main purpose was to inform you about what civil engineering consists in, and about its main branches, as a personal opinion I consider that independently on what your job consists in, we have to become aware that planet needs our help and it's our duty to take care of it. I say it because in the case of my carreer, that should be our first duty, to reduce the impacts of what its built. By the other hand, I consider that in my profession, having knowledges in geotechnical engineering will garant you to have job in a lot if projects because the first thing is studied, is the soil mass, that's our laboratory and work area.
In this part of the essay I will post some images referring to the main topic I described in the previous text
So this is the end of my short essay in which I wanted to explain you some basic things about civil engineering, keep in touch for more information about these interesting facts that belong to my life. See you in next entries.
